ABSTRACT

Ilokano Theatre in the Northern Philippines and the Making of a Sarsuela

The sarsuela entitled “Pammakawanmo, Magun-odko Pay Ngata?” will present the different facets of life of a typical Ilokano family. “Pammakawanmo”  involves issues about politics, love, courtship, marriage, gender equality, good and quality education, parenting, customs, and traditions. The sarsuela features dramatic including comic moments through song and performance. Likewise, the panel will discuss how the playwrights put together the sarsuela by narrating and explaining the methodology they used.
