Since Fall 2002, through the auspices of a GEAR UP Partnership Grant, Farrington High School has been implementing a heritage language curriculum. This presentation will feature theoretical considerations, practical information (including student products), and a curriculum model — based on Ruiz (1988) language-as-resource approach — for language education geared towards linguistic minorities. The theories and practices covered in this session can be applied to developing curriculum for second language learners at other elementary and secondary schools. Participants will engage in making connections among theory, teaching methods, and policy for application in language education. ______________________________
