The paper revisits the contribution of some Ilokano women writers who distinguished themselves in the area of Ilokano poetry following a linear analytical frame. The frame establishes a beginning of this sort of poetics with the poetry of Leona Florentino during the Spanish period formalizing such a written form, although prior to this there women oral poets. Throughout a literary historical accounting of the Ilokano women writers, we see Ursula Villanueva, Enriqueta de Peralta, and Antonia Marcos Rubio during the American period; Luz Flores Bello during the Independence period; and Pacita Saludes, Leticia Farinas, Crispina Bragado, Cristina Martinez Belen, and Hermelinda Lingbaoan Bulong, among others, during the contemporary period. A profile of these women writers is drawn up and a sample of their works presented when applicable. |
