(Agsaludsodka, Sungbatanmi)
Paset I A: Nakem Centennial Conference
is a gathering of scholars who are committed to rethinking about
the culture of the Ilokanos and its relation to national culture
and the ethos of Philippine diaspora. A: It is going to be held every
two years beginning 2006. A: They will be held, on
rotation, in other universities and colleges in the United
States and the Philippines. A: Nakem Conference will remain
a continuing project of the Ilokano and Philippine Drama and
Film Program of the University of Hawaii. However, a
collaboration among many academic institutions and cultural
organizations is being worked out to form the Nakem Conferences,
an umbrella organization, that will help the Ilokano and
Philippine Dram and Film Program of UH Manoa put together the
succeeding conference to be held every two years. A: You can participate by: (a) volunteering to help in any of the committees; (b) preparing a conference paper on any of the topics listed in the Call for Papers; (c) attending the sessions as a delegate or participant. Q: I am from the Philippines. How do I get appropriate visa for coming to the United States? A: You need to schedule for an
interview with the United States Embassy in Manila. It is this
Embassy that will issue you the appropriate visa. A: There are many ways. You can
either register online or fill out a form and mail to the Nakem
Secretariat. Q. Whom will I address my proposal and other communications? For the 2006 Nakem Conference, send all postal communications to:
Nakem Centennial Conference Secretariat You may send your e-mail to nakemconference@yahoo.com.
Q: I missed the
deadline for registration. Can I still register?
A: Yes, you can
still register. Q: Which is the fastest way to register? A: You can register online. A fillable form is found in the conference website: Q: Will speakers and panelists have to register? A: Yes, all
those taking part in our conference are asked to
register. Q: Are we all required to stay at the East-West Center or other venues reserved for accommodation? A: While we
encourage you to do so because these venues are closer
to the Conference site within the University of Hawaii
at Manoa campus, you may choose not to. A: Please let us
know. Please note this in your registration form or
email us of your choice. Q: Why is it necessary for me to tell you that I am not staying at the East-West Center or other places you have reserved for accommodation? A: Because we
need to count heads and cancel those rooms we have
reserved but do not need. Q: Do we have funding assistance for our travel? A: Nakem
Centennial Conference and its sponsors is not in a
position to offer any financial assistance at this
time. Q: Will we have the chance to go around during the conference? A: The four-day
conference is fully-packed with sessions, workshops, and
other activities. Some evenings are reserved for
workshops, a concert, and get-together. We have also put
in a gathering for the founding of the Nakem Conference
Foundation for those interested to become this
Foundation’s initial organizers for their institutions. Q: When is the best time to go around the State then? A: We urge you to calendar your going around the State prior to and/or after the Conference. (To be continued) |
